Located just 30 minutes from the lakes near El Chorro and 40 minutes to Malaga airport the town of Álora also is on the Córdoba-Málaga high-speed train line, and has a local train service to the centre of Málaga.
There is a good mix of nationalities currently living in Álora and the town has a health centre that provides a 24hr service with a paramedic on duty.
For shopping, apart from the usual variety of local shops, there is also a Mercadona supermarket.
Do you like to eat out? Well you are going to be spoiled for choice, i have lost count of how many cafes bars and restaurants there are in Álora; Bar Los Caballos is one of the popular choices for the locals at the weekends.
The castle on top of the hill is steeped in history. This castle was originally constructed by the Phoenicians and later on expanded by the Romans.
It was later inhabited by the Visigoths, then the Moors, then finally the reconquering Christians; each one improving on the fortifications of the previous occupants.
